6 Men, 2 months, and 3530 miles across America – The Gumpathon Challenge
Yeovil based Graphic and Website design company AztecMedia are one of the main sponsors for the coming Gumpathon challenge taking place in New York this weekend and have designed and built the website to monitor the team as they run across America for 2 months. Mike King Managing Director said “One of our customers approached us about 2 years ago to see if we could help with a charity project not realising the scale of the job that was to follow, and this Friday we will see the start of the man-mouth task as they run 3530 mile across the state”.
On September 10th 2010, six very special men from three of the world’s finest fighting forces will attempt to run coast to coast across America to raise funds for injured service men and women on both sides of the Atlantic. The team will run across 16 States, 4 time zones and complete approximately 20 miles a day each, for 8 weeks. One of the team is a triple amputee.
The Gumpathon will raise money for three service charities, In the UK – The Royal Marine Charitable Trust Fund and Help for Heroes and The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund in The States. The team aim to raise a £1m for each of the charities in a challenge which will become the first time in which U.S and British forces have united to raise funds for such a cause.
This epic challenge is the brain-child of Colour Sergeant Damian Todd, Royal Marines who, after watching the film Forrest Gump in 1994 thought that running across America seemed like an interesting idea. After ten years of thinking about it, in 2007 Damian found a reason to put his plan into action when a close friend Mark Ormrod was left with serious permanent disability following his tour in Afghanistan. Mark became the first triple amputee of the war in Afghanistan and has recently published a book about his experiences, “Man Down”. Mark will be running alongside the team and completing what mileage he can, despite his injuries.

Southcombe Brothers
Wednesday, April 7th, 2010
Our most recent addition to our ever expanding client base is the Stoke-Sub-Hamdon based glove manufacturer Southcombe Brothers. The company produces specialist gloves for all sectors of the military and emergency services. Aztec Media’s design for a new identity was very well received and this was quickly followed by the production of a 4 page A4 brochure illustrating Southcombe’s high end range of gloves for Fire Fighters. Deadlines were strict on this brochure as it is to be used to publicise the range at a trade show in the USA later this month.
The photography was done on site along with the printing of the final design which used a variety of finished including spot silver, mat lamination and spot UV. Our work for Southcombe now continues with the design and production of a 16 page brochure showcasing their entire range of Fire Fighting gloves.

Local charity steals the show at Rome Marathon
Dorset-based charity Round Table Children’s Wish received a hero’s welcome as the best performing charity at this weekend’s Rome Marathon. The annual event, which attracts more than 15,000 runners, took in some of the city’s best sights from the Colosseum, past St Peter’s Basilica and the Trevi Fountain.
Yet just one UK charity was represented en mass.
Organisers were so impressed with the efforts of the children’s wish granting charity, which entered 22 runners for the event and brought a large team of supporters, that they held a special presentation ceremony for them on the main podium.
Julie Atherton, on the Fundraising & Events Team at Round Table Children’s Wish, said: “We were honoured to be invited on to the podium and be presented with trophies for our three fastest runners and an overall trophy for the charity team.”
Davey Jones M. D of D R Jones Construction based in Yeovil was one of the most successful fundraisers – collecting over £4,000 in sponsorship for the charity, and finishing the marathon despite a problem with his Achilles. Davey Jones is one of Yeovil Round Tables biggest supporters and was cheered along the route by local spectators. Mark Porter Operations Director and Tom White, Marketing Manager of D R Jones Construction, helped Davey to the finish line in just over 6 hours. The Yeovil Round Table team alone have raised £10,000 for the charty in this one event.
Among those to issue messages of good luck to the team were charity patron Harry Redknapp and the Tottenham Hotspurs team.
Harry said: “I’m delighted to hear that our charity runners stole the show. All their hard work and training paid off and not only will a great many more wishes now be granted but the charity’s international profile has received a well-deserved boost.”
Among the wishes to be granted by the money are two holidays to Italy – Kirsty Loveland from Bridgend who was diagnosed with cancer as a teenager and is now in remission and 15 year old Abigail Lock from Salisbury who is in remission after a brave battle against leukaemia.
Mike King current Chairman of Yeovil Round Table and M.D of AztecMedia was support crew to capture the event on film throughout the event.

Saucony Spring Brochure
Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010
Following the successful (and mainly sunny!) photoshoot at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy in early October 2009, the design of the Saucony ‘Best of Both’ brochure was recently finished. The ‘Best of Both’ brochure showcases Saucony’s spring/summer 2010 apparel and footwear. The 16 page self cover brochure illustrates the companies ever-expanding product range and colourways available through both studio and location based photography.
A print run of 250,000 copies is well underway and the vast majority of these are due to be inserted in several UK running magazines for May. These publications will include Runner’s World, Running Fitness and 220 Triathlon. AztecMedia arrranged the photoshoot and produced the design and artwork along with the print run being printed on-site at AztecMedia head office in Yeovil Somerset.
